Console Manufacturers Approval Cycle: When you are making a game for the PS2, Xbox, GCN, GBA, your producer will have to keep
in contact with Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo Publisher. That “First Party” oversees the development of each of that title for
their platform and ensures It meets the console manufacturers specifications for broad editorial approval as well as game
quality.
They own and control their intellectual property (IP) very tightly. You have to pay them to build the CDs
because they’re including their own secret encryption and program lender code that is very hard to crack. This is why replication
through Sony/Microsoft can cost 8-12 dollars per disc. Also the publisher console tells you that they have to produce a certain
number of copies such as 5 million and the developer must pay them in advance. The Console gets money whether or not the game
does successful.
